Getting ready for the IB Middle Years Programme

March 16, 2023

We are excited to announce that ASA is now an official candidate school for the International Baccalaureate® Middle Years Programme (MYP). Once authorized, ASA will offer a consistent and rigorous International Baccalaureate® curriculum from Grades K-12, including the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

Q: What is the MYP? And how is it different from other programs?

The MYP is an educational program for students in Grades 6-10 that aims to prepare them for a complex and rapidly changing world. It includes integral components such as service as action, approaches to learning, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, and authentic assessment tasks. Unlike other programs, the MYP focuses on fostering a deep understanding of key concepts and skills through inquiry-based learning and real-world connections. By connecting their learning to global contexts, students develop a broader perspective and become better equipped to take action and create positive change. The program emphasizes the development of communication, thinking, research, self-management, and social skills, as well as encouraging students to pursue their passions and interests. In Grade 10, students will showcase these skills during the Personal Project exhibition. Ultimately, the strong foundation offered by the MYP prepares students for success in the Diploma Programme and beyond.

Want to learn more? ASA will be hosting an MYP Community Day on April 29th, which is an opportunity for parents and students to participate in MYP activities that promote communication, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
