Dr. Caroline Brokvam
Director

Before taking on the role of Director at ASA in 2016, Dr. Caroline Brokvam served as High School Principal and Head of City Campus at Copenhagen International School. Caroline began her international teaching career as an English teacher at the International School of Stavanger in Norway, and went on to hold school leadership positions in the Philippines and Australia as well as Denmark. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Education from Charles Sturt University, a Certificate of International School Leadership from the Principal’s Training Centre, a first class joint honours BA in English and Philosophy from the University of Western Australia, and a Ph.D in English Literature also from UWA. Caroline is joined at ASA by her Norwegian husband Ståle, who is the Director of Technology, and their daughter who is in grade 6. They also have two sons, both graduates of CIS, studying at universities in Australia.

 

Joe Adolfae
Elementary Principal

Joe grew up in Spokane, Washington, USA. He started his teaching career 12 years ago in Anchorage, Alaska, teaching at an elementary school for socioeconomically disadvantaged students. This is his 9th year teaching overseas, and prior to moving to Antananarivo, he worked in Qatar and Singapore, where he was a PYP classroom teacher.  Throughout his career, Joe has held many leadership positions. At ASA, he is the Blended Learning Coordinator and the Professional Development Committee Chair. He has introduced the Professional Learning Communities initiative and co-introduced the ASA Maker Faire. He has taught Design in Elementary School, as well as High School Art and IB Diploma Programme Visual Arts.

Richard Reilly
Secondary Principal

Before becoming Secondary Principal/DP Coordinator, Richard was High School Assistant Principal and IB Diploma Program Coordinator at Hong Kong Academy. Prior to this he was the IB CAS and Service Coordinator at the school. Richard is an experienced General Science and Physics teacher, who has also taught in his native Scotland, and at International School Manila in the Philippines. Richard has a BSc in Physics and Mathematics and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Strathclyde University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management from Napier University, a Certificate of International Leadership from the Principals’ Training Centre and an M.Ed (Leadership and Management) from the Open University (UK). He has particular interests in the areas of student leadership, global issues and service learning. Before going into teaching Richard worked as a Counter Terrorism Analyst and Political Attaché for the British Government.
