PREPARING YOUR APPLICATION
- Inquire:Â We are always delighted to show prospective families around our campus and we are happy to do this at any stage in the application process. To arrange a visit, please schedule a meeting with our Admissions Officer. Otherwise, please fill out the ENQUIRY FORM and we will get in touch with you directly.
- Complete the APPLICATION FORM: Our admissions portal provides you with an admissions checklist (under “Student details”), a way to communicate directly with us and keep track of the admissions process.
- You will need to provide school reports (in English), contacts for teacher recommendations and complete the medical form. If you are unsure about any of these items, please email us directly.
ADMISSIONS ASSESSMENT
Applicants (applying for Grade 6 or higher) are required to take a MAP test which will assess their Literacy and Mathematical skills. The Admissions Committee will consider test results in order to determine grade placement as well as language support needs. The admissions office will get in touch with you to schedule the test.
Non-native English speakers will be required to complete an English Language Assessment (WIDA test) prior to acceptance or prior to the first day of school. This allows teachers to accurately determine the level of additional English support required.
Grade 9/10 ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING CAP
In order to continue to be intentionally inclusive and support every single student to our highest ability, we will be introducing a strict cap on the enrollment of new students who require English Language Learning support in Grades 9 and 10 from the school year – 2024/25. This helps us to protect the integrity of the program and ensure that classes are appropriately balanced to allow equity of access to the MYP. This does not affect students who are currently enrolled.
ADMISSION TO THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
While new students may be admitted directly to the Diploma Programme, it is highly recommended that students attend ASA for at least one year before starting the program. This will allow them to take advantage of the IB academic planning and preparation, as well as the counseling opportunities available in the 10th Grade that can be crucial for course selection and success in the DP.
Admission to the Diploma Program is dependent on a student’s previous educational experience. Placement tests in English, Maths and in some cases, a foreign language, together with reports from previous schools are requested of all external applicants: these provide the information essential for correct placing of incoming students. (Students coming to ASA who have completed the MYP or IGCSE are exempt from testing if their results are available at the time of enrollment).
For more information, please refer to our IB Diploma Admissions Requirements.
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
Proof of vaccinations
To ensure the well-being of our community, we require all students to have proof of vaccinations prior to starting at ASA. The following vaccinations are required:
- 1 dose of B.C.G vaccine or negative PPD test (mantoux tuberculin test) or IGRA test within one year prior to admission.
- 4 to 5 doses of Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus (DPT) vaccines according to the student’s age. For those who got only 3 doses, 1 more dose DTaP or TDaP vaccine is required.Â
- 4 doses of Poliomyelitis vaccine (TOPV – Tpi-Oral-Polio-)
- 2 doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – The 2 doses are required even for those who had a single measles vaccination.
- 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine.
For students who have lost their childhood immunization card, we recommend the revaccination process. The school doctor will inform you of the recommended number of doses of the required vaccines in that case. According to the CDC here, it is safe for your child to receive a vaccine, even if they may have already received it. (Please read the section : “What if you can’t find your child’s records”)
Other vaccinations such as Yellow Fever and Rabies may be recommended, depending on where you travel. Please keep the Office updated with your child’s vaccination information.
Physical examination
We wish to cooperate with you in protecting and promoting the health of your children while they are at ASA. In order to comply with the entrance requirements of the ASA, a physical examination within the past six months is required for all newly admitted students. Please have your family doctor fill and sign the physical examination & health history form. The medical questionnaire and consent form are also to be signed by parents. Please return these documents to our school doctor prior to the first day of school.
ADMISSIONS DECISION
Once we have received the completed application and required documents, we will submit it to our Admissions Committee who will review the file and make the final decision on acceptance. We will inform you of the decision and the next steps by email usually within a few days.
Please note that applications submitted during school breaks may take longer to process. Feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions about your child’s status in the admissions process.
