ASA takes part in the “No Name Calling Week” initiative

December 2, 2022

ASA held its first annual No Name Calling Week during the third week of November. This is an event initiated by K-12 educators and students in the USA to end behaviors linked to bullying and promote kindness. ASA’s Gender and Sexualities Alliance Club (GSA) and Middle School Student Council (MS StuCo) have worked hard to put together a fun-filled and exciting week for all ASA students, teachers, and staff.

The celebration kicked off with a presentation by GSA members for secondary students during advisory. For NNCW, students were challenged to police their own mouth and go an entire week without using any negative names when they talk about or talk to each other. Elementary students read a book called “Lulu: The One and Only” and made their own Power Phrases.

A variety of lunchtime activities were offered throughout the week to promote kindness, inclusivity, and fun: a community art event, team building activity, or Kahoot challenge with prizes! Students and staff could also enjoy music in the courtyard at lunch and were invited to write kindness cards and compliments.

ASA is an inclusive and caring community that embraces diversity, and we are proud to offer students and families an inclusive, supportive and engaged learning community.
