Grade 5 students contribute to Malaria research

January 18, 2023

ASA Grade 5 students have been given a special opportunity to collaborate with the University of South Florida, the University of Antananarivo, NASA and the CDC to help gather important data around the increase of malaria-bearing mosquito type (An. Stephensi) within Antananarivo.

Dr. Tovo ANDRIANJAFY, a researcher at the University of Antananarivo, delivered 80 of the 60x lenses used in the identification of the larva, and demonstrated how to use it to gather data and upload to the application for AI analysis.

This fits perfectly within their current unit of inquiry about designing innovative solutions to environmental and social problems. The data they gather could make a huge difference in predicting future malaria outbreaks within Madagascar!
