Design | Students apply the Design Thinking process

April 16, 2021

Grade 6 to 9 Design classes have been learning about the Design Thinking Process (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test), which is used in the field by designers ranging from Stanford University to major international corporations. Additionally, students are developing their skills in various development tools according to their interests, such as video editing, programming, robotics, fashion design, electronics, animation, 3D printing and more.

Students work on projects of their choosing and progress through them while applying the Design Thinking process: first, they empathize with a user group, then use the data that they collect to define a problem statement. Next, they generate ideas for solutions to that problem. Finally, students work through the prototype and test stages while working with a suitable development tool. The goal for Design students is to end up with a completed product to go along with documentation showing their progress through the DT process.
