ASA high school design class visits Thinking Huts’ 3D printed school

October 11, 2022

Our 9th and 12th grade design students spent their time in Fianarantsoa in partnership with the organization Thinking Huts. Thinking Huts is an organization dedicated to addressing inequality of access to education by 3D printing schools. Fianarantsoa is the location of their pilot project, named Bouganvillea, and the first 3D printed school in the world. For their design unit, Thinking Huts founder Maggie Grout has asked for help designing content for Thinking Huts’ website and social media platforms. The class has been asked to showcase the issue of access to education in Madagascar as well as Madagascar the country. The students will be realizing this design brief by traveling and documenting their journey to the location of the Bouganvillea 3D printed school. They had the opportunity to document Malagasy life, handicrafts, as well as visit local schools on the way. In Fianarantsoa they visited the 3D printed school, conducted interviews, created content, as well as organized and hosted activities for local students.
