ASA hosts a launch event for the Global Citizenship Diploma

April 15, 2024

The American School of Antananarivo celebrated a significant milestone with the launch event for the Global Citizenship diploma (GCD). This student-driven initiative, hosted at the school premises, provided a platform for high schoolers to showcase their personal initiatives and commitment to global citizenship.

Having joined the GCD Consortium in June 2023, ASA has embraced the ethos of global citizenship education. This school year, Grade 9 students are starting to build their portfolios, which will culminate in the attainment of a certificate or diploma by the end of Grade 12. The diploma recognizes achievements across various domains including community engagement, artistic expression, public communication, work experience, leadership, and multilingualism.

The GCD is a prestigious accreditation crafted through collaboration among 9 international schools that share common values. It serves as a testament to the responsible actions undertaken by students who actively participate in its pursuit. More than just a credential, the GCD offers a structured platform for students to recognize and showcase their accomplishments as global citizens.

“We are immensely proud to introduce the Global Citizenship Diploma at ASA,” said Thomas Faulkner, GCD coordinator. “Through this initiative, our students will not only gain recognition for their efforts but also contribute positively to global trends of service.”

The GCD not only recognizes individual efforts but also fosters connections between student actions in Madagascar and broader global initiatives. It underscores the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible global citizens who are equipped to address the challenges of our interconnected world.
