ASA High Schoolers Participate in AISJ Model United Nations

September 22, 2021

From Thursday, 16th October to Saturday, 18th October, two ASA Grade 11 students will participate as delegates in the American International School of Johannesburg Model United Nations via Zoom.

Our students will join other student delegates from 16 other schools ranging from Harare, Zimbabwe, to Warsaw Poland; and many in between.

As delegates, Sarah and Audrey will work with other delegates to reach a consensus on real-world issues and problems.

Also, our delegates had the opportunity to listen to Ms. Yasmin Sooka (South Africa) speak at the opening ceremony. Yasmin Sooka is a leading human rights lawyer. Ms. Sooka served on the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission from 1996-2001, after the demise of Apartheid. Yasmin currently serves as the Chair of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan.

This is a big opportunity for our school. And we hope to build upon this experience in the future to provide rich and authentic learning opportunities for our students.
