Grade 5 field trip to the US Embassy

September 13, 2018

Grade 5 students visited the U.S. Embassy in Antananarivo to learn more about the form and function of embassies. As part of their unit of inquiry on “Who we are”, students have been inquiring into the purpose of political institutions, systems of government, and responsibilities of governments around the world. The field trip began with a tour of the U.S. Embassy and ended with a mock press conference where students acted as journalists and asked questions to the Chargé d’Affaires Stuart Wilson, Political and Economic Officer Craig Pike, and Public Affairs Officer Alex Cottin.  Both tour and press conference were facilitated by the Community Liaison Officer, DJ Wright. The students also met with various government agencies and learnt about different projects across the country. It was an enjoyable and informative trip that enabled students to make connections between the classroom and the ‘real world’.
